A high school student with a passion for helping others found herself searching for ways to make a difference in her community before the summer began. What she discovered was not only an opportunity, but a calling.

Through a fellowship program at her school, she was awarded a $500 grant to donate to a nonprofit partner and $200 for supplies. Choosing Feeding Westchester as her partner, she designed food drives that would stretch the support as far as possible—and provide neighbors with something they urgently needed.
But her impact reached far beyond the requirements of the fellowship.
“It was so fulfilling,” she shared. “Honestly, I wouldn’t change what I did at all. It was one of the best things I’ve ever done.”
By the time her project wrapped up, she had helped provide 1,200 meals for families across Westchester. The scale of that accomplishment left her inspired.
“When I read the emails with the results, it was amazing. I didn’t realize that doing this would actually have such a big impact. I thought it would just be a project, but it ended up meaning so much more. It inspired me to keep going and to do even more volunteer work.”
Her story is not just about meals collected. It’s about courage, persistence, and character. Making calls, asking for support, and even facing rejection were all part of the journey. Each step strengthened her belief that making a difference is within everyone’s reach.
“It makes you feel great, it helps the community, and it teaches you so much about character,” she reflected. “Overall, it was one of the best things I’ve done so far in my life.”
This young leader’s drive proves that when passion meets initiative, the results can ripple far beyond what one student imagined.
