On a recent morning at Las Hermanas Mirabal Community School, neighbors, educators, and partners gathered for a pop-up Mobile Market, and what unfolded was more than a food distribution. It was a conversation, a collaboration, and a clear message from the community: this kind of support matters, and it needs to continue.
With the support of the school community and the PTA, the Mobile Market welcomed families from across the area. Many shared that access to fresh, nutritious food close to home makes a real difference, and that monthly markets like this one help families stay afloat.
Dr. Acuna, a leader deeply connected to the school community, echoed what many neighbors were saying when he noted that “we need to do this every month” and emphasized that real progress comes from “being involved and listening to our community.”
Leaders from the school district joined the event alongside Feeding Westchester staff, reinforcing a shared commitment to listening and learning directly from neighbors. Their presence sent an important message, as Dr. Acuna reminded families that leadership is accessible and asked, “what can we do better for you?”
That spirit of partnership carried throughout the morning. Christopher McGregor, Senior Partner Engagement Manager at Feeding Westchester, highlighted that “events like this happen because of strong partnerships” and shared that working together makes it possible to reach neighbors where they are.
Neighbors were encouraged to stay engaged and share feedback as Feeding Westchester continues to bring Mobile Markets to communities across Westchester County.
By the end of the morning, the Mobile Market had served 115 households and 299 neighbors, thanks to the coordinated efforts of school staff, volunteers, and Feeding Westchester’s team. Everyone stayed focused, flexible, and grounded in the same goal: meeting neighbors with dignity and care.
As Feeding Westchester continues to expand access through Mobile Markets, events like this reaffirm the power of showing up consistently, listening closely, and working side by side with local partners.
